
This picture exemplifies the concept of motion. The blur of the runner to first base conveys movement. The viewer gets the sense that the runner is actually running into the photo. I like the opposing movement in this picture because it creates a sense of dynamic tension. The player running to first base is moving to the right, the second base player and the far right player is running to the left toward the infield, and the most distant outfielder is running straight forward. Their directions all intersect with one another, which increases the level of interest. Movement is also expressed from the dirt beneath the closest player’s feet. Dust from the dirt rises in the air as the player’s foot comes off the ground. Because the dirt is unsettled, movement is even more apparent in this photo.
